Vinyl wrap vs PPF
These get compared a lot, but they're not actually competing for the same job. One changes how your car looks. The other protects what's already there. Most people need one or the other, some need both.
| FACTOR | VINYL WRAP | PPF |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Changes your car's colour or finish, a full transformation over the factory paint. | Protects the paint underneath from chips, scratches and road debris. Clear PPF doesn't change how the car looks. |
| Why people get it | You want a different look, a colour change, a contrasting roof, a matte or satin finish paint doesn't easily do. | You want to protect the paint you already have, especially on high-wear panels like the bonnet and front bumper. |
| Does it change the look | Yes, that's the point. | Clear PPF doesn't. Colour PPF does, and adds protection at the same time. |
| Typical coverage | Usually the full car, or large panels like a roof or bonnet. | Commonly the front end (bonnet, front fenders, bumper, mirrors), or the full car for maximum coverage. |
| Can you get both | Yes, clear PPF is often added over a fresh wrap to protect the film itself on high-wear panels. | Yes, or choose colour PPF to get a colour change and protection in a single product. |
Quick way to decide: if you're bored of your car's colour, or want a finish paint can't easily do (satin, matte, chrome, colour-shift), that's a wrap. If your car looks the way you want and you just don't want the front end covered in stone chips in six months, that's PPF. If both are true, colour PPF or a wrap with clear PPF over the front covers both at once.
